Nested against the verdant backdrop of the Eleile Mountains, Waihe‘e School occupies a small eight acre site in the community of Waihe‘e. It is located northwest of Kahului, one of Maui’s busiest and largest commercial centers. The school serves a geographic area comprised of rural and suburban communities stretching 13 miles along the coastline, from Hawaiian Homestead Land in Paukukalo to Kahakuloa Village. Waihe‘e School serves a divers population of students from Paukukalo , Waiehu, Waihe‘e, and Kahakuloa.
The school operates on a modified year-round school calendar as do all of Hawaii’s public schools. Waihe‘e School pioneered the single track year-round school calendar in Hawaii in 1987-1988, when the school and community made the change from the traditional agrarian nine-month calendar.
